LaSalle Language Academy: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I’m a former CPS primary grades teacher as well as a LaSalle parent of 6+ years. Our experience has been amazing from the support my children receive academically and emotionally to learning a new language and world culture. In addition, the community of parents at the school are warm and inviting. We could not have asked for a better experience.
Fantastic experience: Teachers are friendly
Negative experience: I am deeply disappointed with my child's experience at LaSalle Language Academy. From day one, it was clear that this school is failing its students. The teachers and staff seem indifferent to the well-being of the children, especially when it comes to critical issues like bullying and fighting. Despite my repeated attempts to bring these issues to their attention, nothing was done to address the problems. My child felt unsafe and unsupported, which is unacceptable. Beyond the safety concerns, the school's community events are consistently disappointing. Movie nights, which were supposed to be a fun way for students and families to connect, were repeatedly shut down with little to no explanation. This lack of transparency and commitment to building a positive school environment is disheartening. Overall, the staff at LaSalle Language Academy are horrible. They are unresponsive, unhelpful, and seem to lack the basic skills needed to manage a school effectively. I would strongly advise any parent to avoid sending their child to this school. There are far better options available that prioritize student safety, support, and community engagement.
Negative experience: LaSalle Language Academy is a truly awful school. The staff treats students unfairly, and the assistant principal is loud and rude. It's pathetic how little support they offer. Teachers talk about students, calling them slow and dumb. Nobody should go to a school like this. The teachers smoke on school grounds and have no respect for the students. The principal claims to support the students, but that's a lie. All she does is back up her staff and herself. They abuse their power, and teachers curse at students for minor mistakes. No student should ever be treated like this. Before you send your kids to this school, please make sure it’s not this one. Teachers laugh about students failing and do nothing to help them. Teachers like this are childish and immature.
Negative experience: This school is terrible my son was getting picked on and he got beat up and the teacher and they told to grow up and that he was deep and that he was slow and how even got pass 7grade I would not recommend this for your kids
Fantastic experience: If I could rank this school number one, I would. Give this school a try and I guarantee your child will be given the best education and have the brightest future, so bright you'll need sunglasses.
Fantastic experience: Principal Rowland is an amazing principal, she runs the school very well and is a perfect role model for all students and staff, I highly recommend sending your child to this school if you want your child to receive a better future, the best education, and a wonderful and safe environment.
Fantastic experience: My son loves it at LLA, best place to take a child by far.
Fantastic experience: I love going to this school. There is kind teachers, great students, no bullying, clean and nice classrooms.
Negative experience: I would not recommend enrolling your child at this school at ALL I was called to the school yesterday because a teacher took my son’s phone when it rang in class. And when I got there she explained there was a ‘no cellphone’ policy and explained that if any student was caught with an cellphone they would have to turn it in the office everyday for the rest of the school year. And basically explained my son couldn’t have his cellphone even if it was an emergency
Positive experience: it was alright
Fantastic experience: I go there! Its really GREAT
Positive experience: Loved the tour...
Negative experience: I transfer my son here in 2022.....we felt not welcome here and the principal Mr. Graves starred and said nothing idk why? I didn't know at the time he was even the principal.I came inside the school(black mom) everybody starred and said nothing I didn't kno they were even staffs noone spoke to me until I start walking up the hallway looking lost. He didn't say hello but the assistant principal lady came out of no where and was very friendly n welcoming they need to trade positions. He called me in his office as if he was disappointed and ask me why did I want my son to attend the school But this the same rude principal that didn't acknowledge me and told me he couldn't find proof of my son acceptance letter.I had proof and they was hoping I didn't attend and after the 1st day of not feeling welcoming and my son said he felt like he was invisible and the main principal tryna put pressure on my son with requirements I left.
Fantastic experience: We are in our second year at LLA and love it. Great teachers, priority on diversity & inclusion, daily language instruction, and dedicated principal. Magnet school - very happy we made it in through the lottery process!
Negative experience: Both of my kids transferred into a Regional Gifted Center after LaSalle and have received straight As, 5 student awards, and not a single complaint since transferring. They left LaSalle with close-to-failing grades and non-stop weekly teacher and administrator complaints. They were at LaSalle for 1 year. That should tell you all you need to know but if an example would help: Julie Waller, a teacher at this school, pointed at my son and said ‘somethings wrong with him’ as her way of saying she thought he was disabled... because he was 'too quiet'. Despite this, she would mock him publicly saying things like ‘good luck with your life’ if he couldn’t find a worksheet. He was 7 at the time. Administrators were present. The administrators act just like the teachers. Getting both of my kids out of LaSalle is one of my greatest accomplishments as a mom.
Negative experience: The students are stuck with the language teachers all 8 years. The 8th grade trip to the country of each language is only for the top 60 or 70% of the students, so there's an elimination process going on through all 8 years, which makes life miserable for kids and parents if the student's struggling at an early age. It only got worse every year no matter how hard we tried. I volunteered at the school for years to try to improve the situation to no avail. Sad experience
Fantastic experience: Currently have one child attending the school, we love the teachers and staff at LaSalle, very communicative and we feel supported. Great parent community, plenty of opportunities to participate and help the school. Definitely recommend!
Fantastic experience: Great school
Negative experience: Staff is disrespectful and very unprofessional.
Negative experience: My Granddaughter has attended this school since kindergarten and now is in 8th grade. As I am concerned they have not meet her needs and now is having problems getting into a good high school. This has mentally and physically has had a terrible Inpack on her. We may not have the money that most of the children attend this school and has had the financial support from these families for the school, but my daughter has volunteered her time when needed and she was able to help in other ways. She is a single mom and my granddaughter’s father has been ill for some time, which the school has been aware of. It just bothered me to read that every child who attends this school goes into a good high school when most of all her classmates where accepted to these good schools but not her. I think some really good explanation is needed for this to have happened. I loved this school for her but I see now it was a waste of time especially with all the sacrifices my daughter went thru to have my granddaughter be part of this school and for her to have a wonderful future. My granddaughter’s name is Olivia Divizio
Fantastic experience: We are missing the children
Fantastic experience: Great teachers!!
Fantastic experience: I go to lla and it's the best
Fantastic experience: I am going there so excited
