Maestra Yazmín was kind, generous, and very patient. Her extensive experience working with extranjeros was immediately evident. While I still have much more study to reach my goals, I feel supported and well trained in this method and am so glad to find this incredible resource!

Fantastic experience: Excellent Spanish course. My Teacher (Miriam Balderas) explained everything in detail and with multiple examples. Additionally, she was very patient with me and my classmates. I will take other classes with UNAM Los Angeles.

Fantastic experience: I have wanted to take my Spanish communication skills to a higher level. While visiting Mexico City recently, I became aware of the reputation of UNAM. I was excited to find that UNAM has a branch in my home city of Los Angeles. I signed up for an online course in B2 level Spanish. Although the course is organized by the Los Angeles branch of UNAM, my teacher lives in Mexico City. So it really felt as though I was learning Spanish in CDMX. Yazmin (my teacher) never gave us any crutches, by reverting to English. All her explanations were in Spanish, which was fabulous. If I didn't understand something she would try to explain it in Spanish. If I STILL didn't understand it, she would try another way of explaining the concept in Spanish. She would keep doing this until I (or my classmates) understood. I really liked the immersion. I will definitely consider taking another course from UNAM LA.

Fantastic experience: UNAM LA is exactly what I wanted to get a solid support to my Spanish-learning journey. Learning a new language is always a very immersive experience and can’t be achieved without some guidance and support. Thanks to Professor Fernando Perez and Professor Queralt Eréndira for their kindness and patience while teaching. I would highly recommend this place IF you’re motivated and dedicated to learn Spanish, and willing to spend time on your own to practice and work, because just attending the class without the above mentioned things won’t suffice.

Positive experience: Claudia was great. I kind of lost interest in the last 2 weeks because I wasn't really understanding the grammar terms. I think I just have a block when it comes to using academic terminology. And I have a hard time following through with classes. I will try to participate in the sessions on reading, viewing, and conversation if I remember to register ahead of time for them. All of the professors are very knowledgeable and very good teachers.

Negative experience: Unfortunately this institution gave me one of the worst experiences I have ever had taking a proctored exam. They not only avoided providing instructions on what setting was required for the online exam (until I was already on a video call about to start the exam), but also had me wait a full 3+ weeks (aka the maximum amount of time they say you will receive your results by) before letting me know AFTER I contacted them to follow up that they NULLED MY EXAM. I did not even receive an explanation as to why it was nulled- they simply forwarded an email to me to let me know something was wrong and that I would not be refunded ANY of my $200. As someone applying to graduate school, and studying for years for this exam, I was incredibly dissatisfied by the lack of organization, communication, and scamming conducted by UNAM Los Angeles. I would NOT recommend this institution to anyone looking for a proctored exam or any kind of timely, respectful communication.

Fantastic experience: Fernando is the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He works hard to make students feel comfortable and open to communicating in Spanish. UNAM is a great value and fun environment to learn Spanish. A textbook is also included in the course. Highly recommend.

Negative experience: El programa que se anuncia como preparación para maestros en Enseñanza del Español para Extranjeros, es mucho más complejo y complicado entrar del que parece. Cosa que no aclaran en su página de UNAM LA ni en UNAM México. Pienos que hay mas formas de hacerse de fondos que engañar a el alumnado que no se aceptara por la "gran demanda para cursar el diplomado en la modalidad a distancia, y los candidatos que ingresan son los que obtienen los puntajes más altos, lo que no significa que aquellos que no ingresan hayan reprobado el examen." En palabras de laCoordinadora de DIPELE , América Delgado que me escribió hoy. Además de no contestarme porqué de los admitidos casualmente residen en México la gran mayoría (gran mayoría) y la mayoría son egresados de la UNAM. Me parece que si explicaran mejor las "directivas" de la UNAM para aceptar candidatos , entonces es elección del aplicante saber en que gastar sus dólares para que Egresados de la UNAM puedan estudiar. Afortunadamente esto me llevo a encontrar fundaciones más serias que ofrecen preparacion para ELE. No pierdan su dinero fomentando más el nepotismo de la UNAM. Existen mejores opciones.

Fantastic experience: I took a semester of classes two years ago at UNAM Los Angeles and totally enjoyed the experience. The class was small, it was very intimate and engaging and with only a couple of of us it was very interactive. I learned a lot and it provided the foundation for further on-line learning since. I was keen to continue but my work travel schedule has gotten a bit hectic since. I look forward to re-enrolling again in the future. The tutors Aida and Fernando were amazing, they had a lot of patience, and it was a pleasure and very rewarding to be in their class.

Positive experience: Decent Mexican food with a nice salsa bar. Consistent/solid food and service. Dependable if not extraordinary. You can customize any items on the menu, which is nice.
