Fantastic experience: I attended this English course for one month and had a really good experience. The teachers are very kind, patient, and always happy to help. The lessons were clear and easy to follow. Everything was good and I’d recommend this school.

Negative experience: I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my experience at CLA ACADEMY Los Angeles , where I stayed for three months. Upon my arrival, the housing conditions did not match what had been advertised: the bed sheets were not clean, the accommodation was dirty, and cleaning service was only provided every two to three weeks, which is clearly insufficient for student housing. In addition, we were explicitly forbidden from asking questions at the residence reception desk, which leads me to believe that the accommodation provided may not have been fully compliant or properly authorized. Regarding the classes, their quality turned out to be very disappointing. The content was neither engaging nor well structured, and I did not observe any real academic progress. My improvement in English mainly came from interacting with my roommates rather than from the instruction provided. I had the feeling that the school was primarily focused on issuing documents that allow students to obtain visas, rather than on the actual academic progress of its students. Furthermore, I paid a $200 security deposit. When I left, I was refunded only $155. The difference was justified by supposed banking fees which, after verification, do not correspond to any actual charges. This deduction appears unjustified to me. In light of all these elements — unacceptable housing conditions, poor academic quality, lack of administrative transparency, and an improper deduction from the security deposit. I don't recommend !!

Fantastic experience: I have been a student at this English teaching school for the last one year, and I am very happy with my experience. The teachers are excellent—very patient, knowledgeable, and always supportive. They explain every topic clearly and make learning English easy and enjoyable. The staff is also very kind, cooperative, and always ready to help me. The learning environment is friendly and motivating, which helped me gain confidence in speaking English. Thanks to the teachers and staff, my English skills have improved a lot. I truly appreciate their hard work and dedication and would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn English.

Fantastic experience: California Language Academy is a great school. The teachers are very friendly, and the classes are fun and helpful. I improved my English a lot and met new friends from different countries.

Negative experience: The junior study program with classes + activities is a rip off. They don’t communicate the schedule or structure well ahead of time & it wasn’t until our student was enrolled in the junior program that we found out the classes were only in the morning for about 3 hours and then an “activity” is planned for the rest of the day, but the activity plan is not organized well. In our experience the activity is not known until the day of and sometimes it’s just board games or something that is not even a trip that some students would’ve opted out form had they known the day before, making it difficult to coordinate student pick up at the very last minute when the adults or guardians have jobs and can’t just leave in the middle of the day to pick up the student. Also, if not enough people sign up for an activity they will make your kids take public transportation even if it’s to somewhere relatively far, which is ridiculous for how much they charge instead of getting an Uber or a taxi at least. In some cases they actually cancel a trip somewhere, which is unfair because the money paid for this program is supposed to go towards these trip tickets + transportation + chaperone so it’s unfair that they keep the money even when they don’t end up doing the activities or trips they said they would do. Lastly, they kept telling our student that they’d send textbooks ahead of time but they have not sent my student anything and it’s nearly the end of the first week. BTW For the junior program it is about $5k and so far the experience for our student so far has not been great. They have not even given a partial refund. Do better.

Positive experience: Is it possible in your institute to teach someone at a level lower than beginner, or is it possible to teach someone who does not speak English at all?

Negative experience: I paid $1,710 in February 2025 for my brother’s enrollment at CLA. His visa was denied in May, and we were promised a refund of $1,315 within 45 days. As of late June, we still haven’t received the refund, despite multiple follow-ups. The finance department repeatedly said “it’s pending” but never provided a valid transaction confirmation. Now they say it “should be refunded” without proving anything. My bank has confirmed that no refund was posted. This entire process has been extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and stressful. CLA’s handling of international student refunds has been unreliable and opaque. I would not recommend this school to international students or their families. Be cautious.

Fantastic experience: Before coming to academy i was sure that i have enough knowledge for taking IELTS/TOEFL exam, but after studying here for 4 week in advanced class I understood that this is a great step for me because i’ve learnt so many useful information not only for academic purposes but also things that can be beneficial in general life. The studying course here was funny, knowledgeable and motivating at the same time. Highest recommendations!!!

Negative experience: How you can see see in the comments bellow, only Turkish peoples are happy in this school, however if you’re foreigners, as Spanish or Portuguese etc. you should not come to study here.. They won’t treat you properly, specially for the director of this school, it seems he doesn’t like hispanic people.
