Strommen Spanish, French, German Classes, Tutors and Translation

Fantastic experience: I've worked with Leonardo for several years now, and I can honestly say my Spanish has improved tremendously because of him. When I first started, I struggled to form even basic sentences. Over time, through our weekly classes and conversations, I've developed the confidence to speak naturally and hold real conversations in Spanish. Leonardo has a great ability to push you just enough while keeping the classes engaging and enjoyable. Learning a language can be difficult, but he has a clear method and knows how to guide students so that progress actually happens. Looking back at where I started compared to where I am now, the improvement is night and day. I highly recommend working with Leonardo if you're serious about improving your Spanish while actually enjoying the process.

Fantastic experience: I first started Spanish classes with Karen during Covid and so when I was looking for Mandarin tutors, I was happy to connect through Strommen to meet with Linna for 1 hour private zoom classes weekly. Linna is upbeat, adaptable, and makes any topic fun and interesting to learn about. It's been a very enriching experience to dive in for the past 8 months and feel more educated in my own culture and first language (which sadly has fallen away in my adult years). Fantastic experience: I can't speak to any other Strommen classes, but I have been taking in-person group Spanish classes with Fernando for almost a year now starting from the most beginner level and it's been great! The class progresses at a very balanced pace. I feel like I am always learning something new and progressing even with a busy schedule. Fantastic experience: I started taking Spanish classes with Fernando over two years ago, and it quickly became one of the best parts of my week. He is an exceptional teacher. I studied Spanish in college but hadn't used it for over a decade, and I've improved greatly since taking his classes. About a year ago, I went to Mexico with friends who were all amazed that I was able to help us navigate various scenarios through the language skills I've picked up from Fernando's classes. Fernando has tons of experience as a Spanish teacher and has a clear and understandable way of explaining even the most difficult concepts. The homework is always reasonable and on point, helping to cement comprehension of lessons reviewed in class. Most importantly, Fernando is funny and always makes class engaging and fun. The subjunctive tense, to me, is a very dry topic and can be incredibly painful to learn. However, Fernando makes even the subjunctive approachable. What's more, Fernando's students seem to stick with him (like me) for years, and I have met wonderful people in his group classes. I highly recommend signing up for Fernando's classes!

Fantastic experience: Fernando is the best language teacher I've ever had. I've been in his Spanish classes consistently for a few years now, and my Spanish-speaking friends are always amazed at how rapidly I've advanced. When I started, I could barely put together a full sentence. Now I'm having phone calls with my Colombian in-laws that meander from topic to topic. I can watch TV, listen to podcasts, and read news in Spanish and understand 80-100%. So I consider these classes to be one of the best investments I've made. Teaching a language is very difficult, but Fernando knows exactly what he's doing and has his pedagogy down perfectly. One thing I've noticed is that all of the students who've stuck with Fernando over the past few years are very advanced if not more or less fluent by now. That is quite an accomplishment for a class that meets only once a week for about an hour. The best part is that you will look forward to his classes because they're so much fun-- I always get a text from my partner who's in the other room asking, "what are you guys laughing about now?" :) Take Fernando!

Fantastic experience: I just finished my first Spanish course with Ruth. She creates a very supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere to learn a new language. She’s always available to answer any questions and is passionate about helping her students learn. This was the first time taking a language course where I felt like I am actually learning and retaining info. I am excited to continue studying with her and Strommen!!!

Fantastic experience: I HIGHLY recommend Othman for Spanish. He’s engaging, clear, creative, and keeps things moving in a way that’s both fun and rigorous. The class flies by. He uses a variety of different mediums, always fresh and new. He also rides the rhythm of the class, with a good balance of structure and natural flow. I would go as far to say that he is a model for what a modern language teacher should be. I truly look forward to every class with him. Also he's a native French speaker. I don't plan doing French anytime soon, but I'm sure he's even more fantastic for learning French!

Fantastic experience: Yvan was my daughter's French teacher with Strommen. She was in middle school at the time. We were moving to Europe, and as such, she would be behind in French language in her new school. Yvan was an incredible tutor for her -- he spoke in a proper French accent (really important if you want to speak French in Europe) and helped her learn the grammar rules as well as improve her vocabularly. When we settled in, it turned out she was a year ahead of her class, who had been learning French for 6 years!! (Elementary school French is very slow here, but still, it was very impressive.). She ended up not being behind, but instead having an easy class, which helped her integrate with less stress. I highly recommend Yvan. He is super earnest, diligent, well prepared and thoughtful. He is very kind and my daughter still thinks he's the best French teacher she has ever had.

Fantastic experience: I cant say enough great things about my Spanish tutor Serge. I cant believe it but i've been working with Serge for three years and i've loved every minute of it!! Serge has such a wonderful teaching style. He always keeps it interesting. We use traditional methods but he also brings in fun and interesting tactics- like music and movies! I always look forward to my weekly session with Serge! He makes Spanish fun and im never bored. My Spanish has improved so much and i've gained so much more confidence since working with Serge! Another amazing benefit to working with Serge is he speaks MANY languages (10!!!), including french. I had taken a trip to France and he was able to do a few sessions with me before. my trip in French!! Amazing and so helpful!!! Cant rave enough about working with Serge!

Fantastic experience: Teacher Serge Reazza, has been great, he has been really accomodating, solving questions and focusing into what would be best for me to better learn Portuguese , I enjoy his classes so far we have had around 20-25 hours and I am already able to maintain a casual conversation in Portuguese with my Brazilian peers. Fantastic experience: I have been taking Beginning Italian online with tutor Liz Manzini and am loving it! Is it difficult to learn a new language? Assolutamente!! Does Liz make it fun? Anche assolutamente si! I highly recommend her classes. She is so patient, never showing any displeasure with our abilities and she keeps the class flowing at a pace where you don't get bored. We study grammar, structure, etc., as well as practicing writing sentences and speaking them out loud. We also play games, read stories in Italian and listen to Italian music. She is very organized and thoughtful yet keeps things fresh by mixing it up. She is also very responsive to questions and requests outside of class time for instance to correct any homework that we might send her along the week. Working with the folks at Strommen has been a pleasure. They are helpful but not pushy. If you would like to make an inquiry you can rest assured that they won't continue to hound you until you sign up for a class. In summary, I was very happy to have found such a professional organization with the high quality of instructors (as they promise) so close to home and without having to sign on to a college course.

In addition to practical language skills, Giovanni shared insights about Italian customs, etiquette and culture - which helped me feel more connected to the people and places I encountered during my trip to Italy. In just 10 lessons, Giovanni equipped me with the language skills I needed to navigate my trip to Italy with ease. I was able to order food, ask for directions, and even chat with locals. It was such a rewarding experience, and couldn't recommend him enough to anyone looking to learn Italian!

Fantastic experience: I have been studying Italian with Elisa since January of this year and can say she is fantastic. The 90 minute courses (online) with her have been immersive, challenging, and quite enjoyable. She provided us with a substantial textbook and has taken us through the essential grammar with such skill and grace. It can get tricky, learning the intricacies of Italian, but lucky for me, she has the patience of a saint. (Ha!) Elisa brings so much more to the lesson than grammar. Being a native italiana, Elisa has that insider knowledge as to how Italians really speak and a tangible love of the culture, which is passed on to her students. Consiglio vivamente!

Fantastic experience: I was looking for a German tutor for my teenage sons and found Strommen. They have been taking lessons with Serge Yvan Reazza S. Montsalvy for over 8 months. Yvan is a wonderful tutor. Yvan knows how to make the lessons fun and engaging but also very productive and worthwhile. Yvan sometimes gives them work to do outside of class or things to practice which they love. They really like working with him and respect him as a teacher so they are really motivated. I highly recommend Yvan as a tutor!

Fantastic experience: We have been taking French classes through Strommen for a little over 5 months. Our tutor is Serge Yvan REÀZZA S. MONTSALVY and we could not be more pleased with our experience. Yvan is an excellent tutor, he goes at our pace while customizing the learning experience. Yvan helped us prepare for a recent trip to France so that we were able to speak a bit of French after only a short time learning the language. Yvan is great because he teaches about culture and norms while teaching the language, so we are learning to speak the way the locals do. Although it is often challenging, it has been such a blessing to have been able to be learn the language I'm most passionate about. Fantastic experience: Since December, I’ve been learning French with Erin, she’s genuinely the best teacher I’ve had. So kind, patient and specific to my ambitions in the language. She carefully builds programs for me that come to life in our 1:1 sessions. After about three months, I was comfortable enough to only speak French during our classes. She created a sage space for me to stumble into words and phrases, never making me feel like I wasn’t improving. In July, I went to Europe and saw family, surprising them with my ability in French. Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Italian with Vanessa. We had many fun conversations in Italian, which was perfect because I wanted to work on conversation and pronunciation. Although I have taken Italian classes before, pronunciation was not the main focus. Having a good vocabulary and understanding verb tenses is important, but I found if the words are not pronounced correctly you may not be understood. Vanessa worked with me on my pronunciation, explaining that in Italian each vowel needs to be enunciated. I feel I now have a clear guide to help speak correctly in Italian.

Fantastic experience: I just finished Deutsch 1 with Jerilyn! I was really engaged in her teaching style - she really knows how to take a lesson in the direction the students seem to be grasping the most in any given time and then expanding on and building from there. She gives individualized attention in the class - she's very responsive to questions outside of class and also applies insight to the German culture whenever she can into the lesson. The entire lesson is in German - which is for the best because immersion is truly the best way to learn. She provides free materials to use, the only thing in Deutsch 1 that we needed to buy was an English to German dictionary. She also provides multiple resources and different ways to learn.

She teaches fully in German, but also makes it approachable by explaining things in German in a way that is easy to understand. Fantastic experience: I took German 1 with Jerilyn and I am happy I took it with her. Jerilyn provides a comfortable environment where you can comfortably mispronounce words and learn how to improve your pronunciation. I tried learning German by myself be reading books and doing exercises by myself, but Jerilyn has made a huge difference because I was able to practice instead of just rehearsing it in my head. It was a positive experience with Jerilyn and I will continue learning German with Jerilyn.

Fantastic experience: I have been doing an immersive study in German with Jerilyn Phippeny...who teaches her classes purely in German...and she is a delightful instructor. She is also very adamant in her belief about the immersion technique, so much so that she may fight you Mortal Kombat-style should you oppose. Just kidding, she would commit no such violence (at least not that any survivors have admitted). I knew it would be overwhelming going into it, and I was correct, but it does quickly help you to understand the language rather quickly. The Duolingo assignments and other homework between meetings is also very helpful. So, if you're looking to learn German (or any other language she may teach), Jerilyn is certainly my recommendation.

I took classes with Aleksander for about a year and went from beginner to conversational. Aleksander was very helpful in establishing the basics of the language and laying out a roadmap on what is important to know when building the foundation of German speaking. I am now taking speaking classes with Jerilyn that have been extremely engaging and fun. It can be so intimidating to practice speaking a new language, especially with strangers, but Jerilyn makes it a creative and casual experience. She really promotes having fun and forming definitions by explaining in your target language rather than just providing an english translation. I would recommend Strømmen and Jerilyn to anyone who is looking to turn language learning from a monotonous memorization exercise and into an engaging and social adventure!

Fantastic experience: I've been working with Marty for a few weeks to continue my Spanish learning and he's been great. He's very friendly and easy to talk to, I feel very comfortable asking for clarification when I don't understand words or phrases. He comes prepared to each lesson with questions about my work week, future plans, etc. so I get a good opportunity to practice my conversation skills while getting a well-rounded understanding of terms. Fantastic experience: Elisa does a great job of guiding me through the nuances of Italian grammar rules and is very patient with my practice. The text includes key exercises to reinforce the lesson, which Elisa backs up during our weekly hour. Zoom makes it easy to interact and to bring up additional resources on the shared screen. Fantastic experience: My 15-year-old son and I are doing private tutoring sessions with Karen and she is amazing! She adapts to whatever we want to study, from conversation to quick overviews or lessons on particular topics. She is high energy and very affable. Highly recommend!

The texts provide a solid grounding in Spanish grammar and syntax, which allows me to focus on speaking Spanish in our weekly sessions. And Marty always takes the time to work through unusual or unique constructions to make sure I understand how and why the language works the way it does. Beyond just being a native speaker, Anastasia has been really adept at helping me understand the rules of the language and how to best grasp them as a native English speaker. I decided to learn Russian to get closer with my fiancée’s family and I’m really glad I did. One-on-one lessons are a lot of fun, they’re tailored to my ability and are just challenging enough to help me progress. And they’ve been just as great over Zoom during the pandemic. I was nervous to try this, but it has been a really rewarding experience.

She's always on time and with my busy schedule, I find it very easy to adjust our lessons when needed since she's so communicative. From our first meeting, I appreciated the time she took to get to know me and understand my level of French, as well as what I was hoping to learn. Additionally, I like how she gives recommendations on other resources I could be using to improve my listening and speaking skills. Fantastic experience: I’d been trying to learn Russian, on my own and in classes, for the better part of a decade. When quarantine fell upon us, confining us to our homes, I thought “what better time to finally learn Russian?” I can tell you that taking one on one lessons with a Strommen teacher has been one of my best investments. Anastasia is a patient and eminently knowledgeable teacher, who not only knows how to teach but how people best absorb language. Learning Russian without getting completely overwhelmed by grammar and spelling is no small feat, but Anastasia makes it easy and enjoyable. All of the lessons build on one another, and we review older material periodically to make sure the foundations are still strong.
