My sister & her spouse moved to France in October, so I figured it was time for me to finally face my fear of French. Experiencia fantástica: Looking around the Seattle area and online for an instructor that fit both my needs as a beginner French student, and my demanding work schedule was harder than I imagined. After attempting Duolingo on and off for a few years without any results I had reached a point where I was really ready to learn this language. Bill was the perfect fit for both my skill level and schedule. He is American but you would be fooled when he speaks French. He is fluent and teaches the language very thoughtfully. Our lessons were not directed by textbooks, they were better. He takes the language and breaks it down into patterns and groups and teaches the most important words and grammar first. I appreciated his mastery of nuances that natives use in speaking but textbooks don't teach. One of the best perks of having private lessons is you can go at any pace you like and make request on which material you are most interested in learning or reviewing. I feel like Bill's style accommodates this perfectly. Its like a shortcut to learning a language.

As an American studying French at a bilingual university in Toronto, Ontario Canada, I can honestly say I’ve learned more in 3 months with Bill than I did in a whole year in University. I learned more in the first lesson with him, than I had in all the others combined. The method he uses to teach language, is designed to get you conversational almost immediately. I had taken Japanese in highschool and Spanish in college and was ready for a new challenge and to travel to France. I knew very very little French only phrases I heard said many times before. I love that he allows you to learn at your own pace and the amount of effort and time he spends for the lessons is great! Every night taking 15 minutes or so I know it helps when I come back and see him for the next lesson. I currently go once a week for one hour. I feel like once I am ready to plan my trip to France I will be well prepared. I highly recommend Bill if you are looking for a French teacher it doesn't get any better than him.

Coming in I had essentially no previous experience in the language whatsoever and learning a new language from scratch is daunting, but the thing about Bill that I really appreciate is that he makes learning a truly fun experience because you can tell he enjoys what he does which really makes a difference! Experiencia fantástica: I've spent many hours studying with Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, Yabla and other programs only to end up frustrated and unable to actually converse. Bill is changing that by giving me a real understanding of how to study and practice in a way that yields real results. An understanding of how to speak about things that have already happened, that I'm doing now, that I will do tomorrow, or that I could do, would do etc. His lessons are completely customizable and for me that makes all the difference. Things I don't understand are not glossed over. Areas that I'm strong in are reinforced. Highly recommended if you really want to learn.

Bill obviously loves to teach. His enthusiasm is contagious and it is the easiest thing to get involved with speaking and hearing this language, with him. I have found in the less than one month I have been under Bill's tutelage a valuable resource. He uses anecdotes to explain why one says things in a certain way in French. He uses these anecdotes to separate one's thinking, and thus speaking, in English from the same in French. I consider myself very lucky to have found Bill as my tutor. I am confident, for the first time in several years of struggling to learn French, that I will become fluent.
