Fantastic experience: I have been working with Bill for a little over 3 months learning French and I highly recommend him for learning any language. Every lesson is an hour long and focused on a particular feature of the language: verbs, adjectives, phrases, etc. and acts as a building block from the previous lesson. It makes learning the language manageable and fun. Bill is a great teacher and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn with him.

His mnemonics and pattern identifiers are helping me to learn French faster and more reliably than self study or other classes ever have. I recently went to Paris and was thrilled at how much I could speak - but also much more needed to be fluent! I started a last year with a language app, after not having studied French for several decades. That was fine but I really needed a more active, in-depth program. Fantastic experience: I’ve been studying French with Bill for about 4 months and it’s been a really positive, enjoyable and productive learning experience. He’s fun, patient, incredibly well organized, flexible in his approach and the pace at which we work. He’s available throughout the week to answer quick questions and he provides weekly homework tailored to what we’re covering. He has a very well-thought out, logical approach to presenting information which has helped me absorb new material. He has developed a lot “memory tricks” and provides a lot of historical context for why French grammar and vocabulary work the way they do, all of which has helped me come up the curve more quickly. So, if you’re for a language tutor, I think Bill is an excellent choice and I recommend him highly.

Fantastic experience: If you're interested in learning French and are looking for a dedicated and effective tutor, I highly recommend reaching out to Bill! As a monolingual English speaker with minimal prior exposure to French (limited mostly to a few lessons on Duolingo), I began weekly tutoring sessions with Bill about three months ago. Since then, I have already learned so much! Bill has a deep understanding of the language and explains all lessons clearly and thoroughly. I personally like structure (rules), and while I am learning new things, it is helpful for me to understand both how and why things are the way they are. Bill provides thorough explanations of all concepts, which helps me to understand and more easily remember the information. His lessons are adjusted to match my learning pace, ensuring I am getting the most out of our time together but also not feeling overwhelmed. Pronunciation is another area that Bill focuses on during our lessons. I’ve come to appreciate just how important proper pronunciation is in French, and it’s something I struggle with. Bill has been very helpful and patient with my terrible American accent, by sending audio recordings of the words learned during each lesson, providing examples of English words with similar pronunciations, and gently correcting my pronunciation during our sessions. Bill is also super approachable and responsive. He’s always available via text or email to answer questions, and I tend to ask quite a few! No matter how simple or complex my questions are, he responds promptly with thorough, easy-to-understand explanations. I still have so much to learn, and I’m excited to continue learning French with Bill! You should try it, too :)

Fantastic experience: Wow. Just completed my 4th French lesson with Bill today and cannot recommend him highly enough. I attempted French lessons years ago without much success. Those lessons left me mostly confused and definitely more intimidated than before I started. After my first lesson with Bill, I was able to form full sentences in French. !!! Bill has a building block method of instruction that teaches you how to plug and play with words. He’s thorough, thoughtful and maximizes every second of each lesson. He teaches over zoom, provides photos of the learning materials and also audio files to remind you of pronunciation. He creates homework after the lesson that he sends via email and/or text to practice between sessions. Again, I cannot recommend him highly enough and wish I had had access to his style of teaching years ago! I’m amazed by how quickly I’m learning and look forward to FINALLY learning French!! Fantastic experience: I have taken French lessons w Bill Savage for about 8 months (since January 2024--one hour zoom session/week), and I think he is an excellent, rigorous, creative, and responsive teacher (who loves French and teaching French, and the sound of French). I started with virtually no French, but I have learned many building blocks, I have developed skills and confidence, and I am engaged in how the language works (including how it works differently than English) and by Bill's intelligent and useful teaching methods. For the past few weeks, with Bill's encouragement (and his close review and corrections) I have been writing an essay in French for presentation at each session, which I enormously enjoy.

Bill is an extraordinary teacher. He has created a wonderful program to learn and speak and write French (no I haven't read Les Miserables en francais...yet). Fantastic experience: One day I decided I was going to learn another language and initially I chosen to self teach with a few apps, after only a few weeks I realized I wasn’t getting quite what I wanted out of it so I went looking for a professor and soon came across Bill. I had no real previous experience in French between grammar, pronunciation and the “flow” of the language, but the thing about Bill that I really appreciate is that he makes learning a truly fun experience because you can tell he enjoys what he does which really makes a difference! He doesn’t just teach you textbook French but also legitimate conversational French that you’ll hear/need/use in your travels. Also, I really appreciate the little anecdotes of history behind why things are the way they are which makes the experience not only enjoyable but really interesting. Fantastic experience: I have been taking French lessons with Bill Savage for a little over three years and I’m absolutely thrilled with the results! My sister and her spouse moved to France in 2020 so I figured it was time for me to finally face my fear of French. I never thought I’d be able to get the pronunciation right or be able to understand what was being said to me because of my age and the fact that I spent the last 30 years working around loud machinery. In spite of my hearing loss I am making tremendous progress in learning to speak this beautiful language and, rather than being intimidated, I’m enjoying the lessons so much! Bill Savage has developed a method of teaching that has given me insight into how French is constructed. He started with us from scratch and within just a few weeks has us speaking in full sentences with phrases we would actually use. He sends photos of the white board during class (reducing the need for taking notes and increasing time to listen), and often records and sends a reading of the board to provide a reference for correct pronunciation. His method of exposing word patterns and building language by manipulating linguistic blocks makes learning both manageable and fun. Unencumbered by textbooks, classes and homework are customized, and Bill is available between classes to respond to questions with facts and informed reassurance. Fantastic experience: Well past year 2 of my time for French learning with Bill - I have stayed committed and continue to grow in confidence and, at the risk of overstating my abilities, skill. The pandemic has lead to ongoing virtual interactions which has benefitted us both: me, as it allows so much flexibility to engage from where ever I happen to be, and for Bill, it seems to have opened up the world to him, including students from everywhere. This has translated to an even more proficient teaching style adapted to virtual learning and an ease and confidence in front of his camera that really suits him and works very well. On to year 3!
