Experiencia fantástica: As a homeschooling parent, I have wanted my children to have all the opportunities that public or private school kids had, but that is just not always possible. My son wanted to learn Chinese, but finding resources for these things can be difficult. We found a class at the community college that he really liked, but there was nowhere we could find to build on those skills until we were referred to Texas Mandarin Tutoring. The basic knowledge my son acquired in his class was exponentially grown at Texas Mandarin. Miss Rita said he has a talent for learning languages (he is a quick learner overall), but he lacked motivation. Discipline is difficult, but Miss Rita was able to try many different ways. One of the ideas with best results was signing him up for the HSK Chinese proficiency test. He studied for a month - since he had that goal - and passed the exam with a very good score. He worked hard and enjoyed the process. Miss Rita found the patterns from the exam that worked for him, and she continues with those today, and specifically in preparation for the next exam. He has been receiving instruction there for 7 months, and he is speaking it around the house, and I can see his brain working to conceptualize his world with his new vocabulary and conversation skills. His pronunciation has improved, and his feels more confident and joyful in speaking. He is looking forward to his next HSK exam this fall. Miss Rita has gone above and beyond to find what motivates him. She has been flexible with our schedule and desire for frequency of meeting. I cannot say enough good things about Texas Mandarin and the individual, tailored instruction they provide.

Experiencia fantástica: Learning Mandarin with Rita has been an extraordinary and uniquely personalized experience. Before I started lessons with her in 2024, my Mandarin exposure was primarily through Chinese dramas, which I’d been watching since 2021. This meant I had a decent grasp of listening comprehension, but speaking and writing felt like an insurmountable challenge. I didn’t even know where to begin constructing sentences or understanding colloquialisms. My initial struggle was genuinely not knowing how to form sentences or even begin speaking. I felt lost when trying to translate my thoughts into spoken Mandarin. But from the moment I started with Rita, my growth was exponential. She intuitively recognized my strong listening foundation and focused on bringing my speaking ability up to par.One of my first “aha” moments came when we focused on specific structures like “我在…的时候” (Wǒ zài… de shíhou - when I was doing something…). This seemingly simple framework unlocked a vast potential for expression, giving me the confidence to articulate many thoughts I previously couldn’t.Another turning point was when I began telling Rita stories, and she would help me retell them in Mandarin. After we pieced together sentences or paragraphs, she’d make personalized audio recordings available on Spotify. As someone who often goes on runs, I’d integrate these recordings into my playlists, listening repeatedly while exercising or doing chores. This consistent, background immersion dramatically improved my language flow and conversational fluidity.Like any learning journey, there were hurdles. One challenge was finding the confidence to speak Mandarin aloud. I often felt embarrassed, but Rita emphasized that building confidence is an integral part of language learning. Having me repeatedly practice simple sentence structures until they solidified in my mind allowed me to use them without hesitation. When I felt my enthusiasm waning, Rita suggested a new strategy: preparing for the HSK 3 exam. As someone highly motivated by tests, this re-ignited my passion. Within a short period, I learned hundreds of characters. Our lessons shifted to sample exam questions, and I’d practice new HSK 3 characters and structures outside of class. This was so effective that I’m now studying for the HSK 4 exam to keep that momentum going.Rita’s ability to adapt her teaching to my evolving needs was incredibly helpful. She provided appropriate homework tailored to our current focus – sometimes it was listening to her Spotify recordings multiple times a day, other times writing ten sentences with a new structure, or even making my own audio recordings for her to review. She encourages me to send her messages and audio messages throughout the week for extra practice and even incorporated my love for Chinese dramas into homework assignments, discussing episodes we had both seen or using a drama as material to practice conversation. While it’s hard to pinpoint exact timelines, I can now express more complex ideas in Mandarin. A recent milestone is my ability to consistently read most common characters. I can even watch Chinese drama trailers with Chinese subtitles and understand what’s happening – a testament to how far I’ve come! I can also look away from a drama for minutes at a time and still grasp the plot.My confidence in speaking Mandarin has ebbed and flowed, but through every season of discouragement, Rita has been a constant source of support. She’s incredibly intuitive, sensing when I needed a lighter load or when I was ready to push harder. This adaptability meant we were always trying new strategies until we found what worked.Rita’s guidance is unparalleled because she doesn’t just tailor lessons to your current level; she adjusts them based on your current learning season and specific needs. She’s constantly exploring and implementing new strategies, ensuring that you’re always making progress. Beyond her personalized approach, she provides a wealth of learning resources, including Purple Culture, her custom audio recordings, and HSK exam practice materials.

Experiencia fantástica: Rita is an absolutely amazing tutor. I started taking 1:1 class with her every week about a year ago and I am very happy with my progress. I learned Mandarin previously, many years ago, and wanted to pick up learning with a focus on conversational skills. While I love learning the language, I had very low confidence speaking it. After a year of studying with Rita, I am so much more confident in speaking, can form complex sentences, and can understand most of what she says in Mandarin during class (she exclusively speaks Mandarin only when we meet to create a fully immersive language learning experience for me). Enjoy my time learning Mandarin with Rita every week and plan to continue this coming new year!

Experiencia fantástica: I found Rita because I wanted to study to pass the HSK 2 exam but I was rusty and wasn’t sure if I had enough vocabulary to get there. She thoroughly went through what I’ve already learned and set up a gameplan during the first lesson on what to focus on. Rita is an extremely pragmatic tutor who efficiently prioritizes the student’s needs: in my case we drilled HSK question examples and brushed up on vocabulary I was missing. She helped me get my confidence up and encouraged me to take HSK 3 instead of 2, which I ended up easily passing. A lot of her pedagogy is about boosting confidence, because once I was confident enough to speak even with making mistakes, it was easier to practice and I quickly regained what I’d forgotten. I also found that studying with her greatly increased my conversational skills overall because she doesn’t only teach out of the book but also promotes natural conversation practice and is always happy to practice outside of class, too. I would highly recommend Rita as a tutor.

Experiencia fantástica: I have always had an interest in Chinese Culture. One way in which I can understand Chinese Culture is through language. The problem was I was quite apprehensive when it came learning the language. I was frightened by the foreignness of the language based off of how it looked and sounded. When I asked peers, they were adamant about how impossible it is to learn. However, when I started taking classes at Texas Mandarin, the sessions were very malleable. Which was great for me because it gave me the confidence I needed to take the language head on and progress quite quickly. In 10 months, going to one session a week hourly. This then progressed to me being able to speak to my Taiwanese tailor in Mandarin. Not only to speak Mandarin but have proper pronunciation as well. This is a person who I have been going to since I was a kid. Which made it a truly special experience. I also was able to speak to my Chinese friends in their native language which has drawn us closer together as friends. What is most exceptional about Texas Mandarin is that they were able to give me tailored lessons that is unique to my learning style and my own personal goals with the language. All of this has led to an enriching experience that has been one of the greatest investments I have made in my life so far.

Experiencia fantástica: My sons have been trying to learn mandarin in the past through traditional mandarin school, it has been challenging for them since we don’t speak a lot of mandarin at home. They struggled to understand what teacher is communicating in traditional Chinese school. Since we have Ms Rita as our private tutor, they started to comprehend the basic mandarin communication and improved quite a lot from where they were. Ms Rita was very successful in keeping my kids engaged while learning mandarin. She uses alternative method of teaching by introducing them to playing board games like game of life, monopoly, guess who and etc. While my kids are playing those games, they are picking up daily communication in mandarin, and she makes the learning process so much more fun and enjoyable. All these activities are very relevant in daily activities and my son was able to get the CBE credits he needs for high school. Thank you Ms Rita for being their awesome teacher !

Experiencia fantástica: Ordering food in Mandarin makes me very stressed. While I feel very prepared in class to order food, the actual experience is still quite nerve racking. Although ordering food in Chinese can be stressful, I soon learned that having these real life conservations in Chinese is very useful and helps improve my listening and speaking skills. After ordering, my confidence is boosted, and even if I mess up, it is an opportunity to improve. It is normal to feel nervous, so I often go over lines I have memorized in class to help me. The real life conversations that I have in class help prepare me for daily life conversations with native speakers. While I may not have a lot of confidence in myself at first, having courage to speak in Mandarin is extremely rewarding and helps boost my confidence and learning skills. For example, I was not very confident in myself when taking the HSK3. However, after seeing my high scores, my confidence was boosted and I was motivated to keep learning. Don’t underestimate your skills in Mandarin. While speaking and using Mandarin in real life can be challenging and stressful, the results will be very rewarding for yourself. I started taking lessons with Rita around 3 years ago, knowing no Mandarin at all. Now I am around HSK3-HSK4 level. Learning a new language is always challenging at times, but I have enjoyed our lessons and felt rewarded with my progress.

Experiencia fantástica: We started Mandarin lesson with Rita a little over a year ago. Prior to that, my kids were enrolled in a weekend Chinese school. After the switch, both kids improved leaps and bounds. Rita taught Chinese in real life setting, so students can actually relate to the material and retain the knowledge. For example, she would take them on a "shopping" trip to the store next door. She would cook simple snacks during class, go through the items in the kitchen with students. She would play board games "Game of Life" with students so they can practice life events. All of these methods are very practical when you learn a language. Rita is also instrumental in helping one of my kids pass the Chinese CBE (credit by exam). When we started the lesson with her, we were only hoping to pass CBE level 2 at the most. Rita spent a lot of time with my child, not only teaching her the knowledge, but also teaching her HOW to take an exam. In the end, my child passed CBE level 3, which surpassed all of our expectations. I highly recommend Rita's mandarin lessons. We have used a few teachers in the past, she is simply the BEST.

Experiencia fantástica: I started taking classes with Rita about 5 months ago starting at a good basic to lower intermediate level. I was able to follow along relatively well when listening to chinese, but often struggled to reply by not finding the words or translating in my head at the same time and it slowed me down. Our focus was on teaching me using concepts, events and interests that apply to my daily life to really polish those common conversations that I will normally be exposed to. It worked VERY well since throughout these classes, important distinctions on grammar and/or pronunciation came up and we took time to discuss those as well. It became more natural with time to form sentences without having to think about the sentence pattern in my head before talking. We often talk for several minutes entirely in chinese and I'm able to follow the conversation close to instantly. I have improved significantly on how to follow the flow of the conversations and have reduced paying attention to the tones as much. I've learned different approaches to sounding more natural by practicing in person, listening to music in chinese or watching chinese shows. Every session is a good combination of your normal "theory" with the practice of every day conversation. We've gone into detail on conversation topics like work abd business situations where I've managed to use my knowledge in a professional sense to at least talk about fundamental work responsibilities. The teacher encourages you to talk with her through text throughout the week and will often send you interesting videos/songs related to your specific interests. She will push you just enough without causing you to burn out but not too little that you start slacking and feel like youre wasting your money. She is definitely the only teacher I've had in my 2 years of learning that ive stayed with for longer than 2 sessions.

Experiencia fantástica: I started studying Chinese with Rita about a year ago. Tried to get started on my own but wasn’t making too much progress, and was curious to see how working with someone could help me work around some of my roadblocks. One year down the line and I genuinely can’t imagine how much time and effort I’ve saved by working with Rita. I can read, write, understand and speak comfortably at an intermediate level, even with native speakers and native-language materials. I completed the HSK3 exam last fall and am already preparing to move onto higher levels. Every week, I still notice consistent improvements, even if when I’m not able to practice on my own time. The benefits of working with a native speaker, one with experience navigating the difficulties of learning a language, are endless. On top of that though - Rita is a phenomenal teacher. Rather than pulling from a textbook or teaching to a curriculum, she creates specialized material and won’t stop working until she is speaking directly to your abilities and comfort level. She is constantly researching and implementing new learning tools and platforms, and if it doesn’t exist, she’ll create one - from recording personalized podcasts, to writing stories, to building lessons into board games and your own hobbies. It’s a rare and refreshing approach to learning that will push you to work harder and smarter in everything you do.

Experiencia fantástica: I came to Rita with a decent low-intermediate knowledge of Chinese vocabulary and grammar but struggled to form all but the most basic sentences. After one month of working with Rita my speaking and listening comprehension both greatly improved. I attribute this improvement to her method of creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere for each session. One day she conducted a tea ceremony, explaining the ritual, and making tea for us to drink during the lesson. She takes a genuine interest in my daily activities, hobbies and interests, creating endless topics for conversation. She will encourage you to text her questions during the week as soon as they arise, so that a teaching moment will not be missed. I am so fortunate to have her as my Mandarin coach.

Experiencia fantástica: I adopted my daughter from China when she was 2.5 years old. As she rapidly learned English when we returned to the US, I found Rita when we were looking for someone who could help her retain the Mandarin she had learned. Rita was so dedicated to helping us-always coming up with new ways to "teach" a toddler. She would come up with new games, find my daughter's favorite characters' books translated into Mandarin, and would even make us videos on the weeks we couldn't get up to Plano to see her. She is passionate about helping others learn, and she is a wonderful teacher and person.

Experiencia fantástica: My son’s development of the Mandarin language has improved exponentially since starting weekly tutoring sessions with Rita. He’s developed conversational capability - Rita goes out of her way to engage him by discussing his interests and activities as a regular part of the curriculum.

Experiencia fantástica: We moved to Frisco one year ago. Our, now 15 year old, son had been taking Chinese since second grade at his previous school. Unfortunately, his HS in Frisco did not have a Chinese teacher. Rita came highly recommended and we are so thankful that she has been working with our son this past year. He loves having Rita as his Mandarin Chinese teacher and he continues to thrive in his Chinese learning because of her. He recently passed his HSK exam and couldn't have done it without Rita's instruction. We are so fortunate to that Rita has been helping our son improve his Chinese!!

Experiencia fantástica: I had absolutely no experience learning mandarin before I found Rita online and from the first lesson I knew I found the right teacher. She has made the learning process so engaging and genuinely fun! I have only been with her since March 14th and I was able to pass HSK level 1 on May 11th. Her patience and persistence while teaching me was so unbelievably helpful. I look forward to my classes each week because I know I have a teacher that is wholeheartedly interested in helping me learn and grow on this journey. She goes above and beyond to help find the best learning strategies and personalizes her lessons depending on what you want to learn or are interested in. For example, she is teaching me how to order food. She even takes to time to help me with vocabulary in class and finds the best way to phonetically memorize everything. I also appreciate that she checks in with me in between lessons, when she sends me an incredibly helpful diagram or recording it motivates me to practice and study! I believe she is very passionate about teaching and it makes me passionate about learning.

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter has been taking Mandarin lessons from Ms. Rita for about a year now & she has learned so much! She orders from Chinese restaurants, speaks to her friends at school & neighbors, all in Mandarin. My daughter is able to do this because Ms. Rita has taught her through her main interests such as Asian TV shows, movies, school activities & music. Learning to speak about everyday relevant things has captured the attention of my daughter & has motivated her to work harder. Ms. Rita has such a wonderful style of teaching that my daughter looks forward to each week because it’s fun for her. We are so lucky to have found Ms. Rita & highly recommend her to anyone who wants to start speaking Mandarin or anyone who wants to improve what they already know.

Experiencia fantástica: I learned more in one lesson than I did in weeks of self-study! Each session is unique, and I like that my learning material is applicable to real-life experiences. It is tailored to my interest and learning preferences, and has given me a greater understanding of Mandarin and Chinese culture! I was able to pass the first level of the Chinese proficiency exam (HSK 1) after just 9 lessons with Rita, which shows that her teaching style is exemplary!!

Experiencia positiva: I travel to China approximately 4 to 5 times a year. I work with Factories in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Fuzhou and Xiamen. I import Home Decor products. Rita has been a great help in educating me in Mandarin and the culture of China. She is very dedicated and works very hard, to insure you understand.

Experiencia fantástica: I met Rita when I was somewhere between HSK3 and HSK4, the point when you make it or break it with you Chinese study. Or you become fluent, or you get lost and all you can do it to sing in Chinese. The best thing about Rita is she understands what I need and what I like, and plan her lessons around me and my life. For example. I love Daniel Wu, so we end up learning through his movies and reality shows! Or she can keep texting with me for hours about my ex boyfriends!!! I work for a Taiwanese company with co-workers from Mainland, Taiwan, and HK speaking Chinese around me from 8 to 6. By the time I met Rita, I can only recognize simple sentences like "Good morning", "Thank you" "Whose is this", "yes", "no" when my coworkers speak with their normal speed. I can carry on some basic conversation in lunch room, but only with the people who know my vocabulary foundation and only with certain easier-to-listen accents. I spent around half a year with Rita, 2 classes per week plus regular texting and phone calls after class. Now I can understand 90% of what my coworkers are talking about, both work-related or chit-chat. I can write simple Chinese emails and can talk over the phone in Chinese with customers and vendors (of course it's also because I get used to the certain vocabulary and common situations of my job). Chit-chat is no longer a problem. Grocery shopping feels very easy at 99 Ranch. Now if someone approaches me and speaks to me in Chinese, I can respond to them at ease. I feel very comfortable speaking Chinese. Rita is a very dedicated teacher. She's also very creative so you won't get bored!

Experiencia positiva: My learning experience with Rita has been wonderful! One of the things that has really helped me improve is the fact that she speaks to me predominantly in Mandarin so that I get used to listening and understanding native speakers. She is also flexible and creative and uses events in my life to create lessons that help me express myself about them! I used to think that Mandarin was impossible to learn, but she's shown me that it really isn't.

Experiencia fantástica: Prior to starting my classes with Rita, I was trying to learn Mandarin thru an online course which teaches very formal spoken Chinese. I wanted to not only improve my Chinese but to understand it as it is truly spoken. She teaches Chinese as it is actually spoken on the street or between friends as opposed to the formal language presented in an online class. She structures her lessons around what is currently happening in my life which makes the lessons relevant to me. I have picked up much more grammar from Rita than from an online class. She teaches phrases which are not out of date. The pronunciation she provides is as the Chinese truly speak so that I hope to lose my "international accent" and actually sound Chinese to native speakers.

Experiencia fantástica: Rita plans lessons around what you will ACTUALLY use and keeps it simple. She is willing to teach you as much as you are interested in learning and has a natural skill in teaching. I have learned so much that I am able to use on my Asia business trips. An extra bonus that sets Rita apart is the tools she provides - travel reference cards, Google classroom, Quizlet, Youtube videos, and learning apps. Definitely a great learning experience and well worth the investment!

Experiencia fantástica: I met Rita when my wife and I were planning a trip to China. I have a different learning style and I'm in my 70's which made Rita's job very challenging. Then, I didn't even know how to say 你好 or "Hello" in Chinese. Rita took the challenge and developed a lesson plan that not only taught me enough Chinese to speak and understand many phrases, but I learned much of the Chinese culture which enhanced my learning experience. She used many creative methods to help me associate what I was learning with the situation. I was able to ask for a taxi, show the driver an address and say I wanted to go there, order food and ask for tea or water, ask hotel clerks how to find places, and best of all, barter with the street vendors (even if I still paid too much). Rita prepared a travel booklet for me with English/Pinyin/Chinese words which helped me remember phrases and recognize signs. And her help with my pronunciation had my friends in China commenting that I sounded like a native.

Experiencia fantástica: We met Ms. Rita in 2016 for Texas Mandarin Tutoring for our 9 year old son Victor. He is a creative, inquisitive but shy and we thought he would enjoy learning not only a new language but a new culture from outside his regular school curriculum. After 2 years we can honestly say our 11 year old is a much more extroverted in terms of his confidence to not only learn but speak in a different language. Neither me or my wife speak Mandarin which makes it even more exceptional. We could not be happier for the role Mr. Rita's Mandarin has played in our son's life and only hope we can stay with her for a long a Victor's education continues!

Experiencia fantástica: I started tutoring with Rita in an effort to be able to better communicate with my in-laws and eventually speak mostly if not only Chinese at home (for the benefit of our future children). She really knew how to prepare lessons according to my desired goal and made a true effort to keep me interested and practicing the language on the days in between our meetings. I would highly recommend her services for those looking to start or improve their (Chinese) language skills!

She teaches in a way that makes learning a fun rather than boring classroom setting. I needed to learn chinese for touring china.
