Fantastic experience: My daughter absolutely loves Rilke Schule ♥️! She’s already bilingual and is now picking up German as her third language, even though we don’t speak it at home. The teachers are amazing, and she’s always excited to go to school. Plus, the after school program is a lifesaver it fits perfectly with our schedule, and the kids have so much fun!

Fantastic experience: We have really enjoyed Rilke Schule. We have a first grader. We like the art and music program. Also Rilke students test very high in ASD all school testing. She is learning German and German traditions as well as English. The after school program which is specific to Rilke Schule, Rilke Clubs, is wonderful especially for working parents. Our daughter takes ballet, violin, karate, and yoga in the after school program and I don’t have to to drag her all over town to do these things! All around we are happy with Rilke Schule!

Fantastic experience: My family has been at Rilke for almost 7 years, and we all love it. My kids really enjoy learning German, and I really like that families stay with the school and dedicate their time to its success. We have a wonderful school community with lots of fun activities like St. Martinstag where we sing and walk through the woods with lanterns, Christkindlmart, a traditional German Christmas market, and Wandertag, a school wide hike at Kindcaid park. The teachers are marvelous and develop strong, positive relationships with the kids. I particularly like that it is K-8 and that my older kids are around adults and peers who've known them since kindergarten. Rilke Schule ist wunderbar!

Fantastic experience: We love Rilke Schule. The faculty and teachers are the best in ASD. The Rilke Community is incredibly engaged and supportive. My children thrived both academically and socially at Rilke. This school set them up for future success.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing school! Parents and teachers are super engaged. Our 6-year-old daughter loves it! The many after school programs are a huge bonus for us working parents. Yoga, ballet, theater are just a few of the options. She is excelling with the German immersion. We were so surprised when her 3-year-old sister counted to 10 in German at the breakfast table because her older sister had taught her how. Rilke puts on several events throughout the year that make you feel like you're part of a community. Five star education!

Fantastic experience: My grand daughter is an 8th grader at Rilke. She has been a student at the school since kindergarten. She has gotten a good education with a strong academic focus and emphasis on speaking, reading and writing German. The staff at the school are a group of hard working, dedicated educators always trying to meet the challenges of teaching. They are highly collaborative and solve problems together. The needs of students always comes first. Keep up the good work Rilke Schule!!

Fantastic experience: I have two kids who attend this school and they love it! It’s fantastic that we have such a great option for our kids to learn a new language, culture, and love for learning. The friends they make here will be life-long and the opportunities it will open are limitless. I highly recommend Rilke!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend anyone looking at a charter school instead of traditional education.

Negative experience: Everyone in Anchorage is so happy about Rilke Schule. I am not, no longer at least. Here's why: I am German, my 6 year old daughter is German, too and she speaks, of course, German. However, she doesn't speak English, yet: we moved to Anchorage 2 months ago, from a non-english speaking country. So we applied to Rilke Schule - seems legit, right? The problem is that there is such a hype about Rilke Schule that we wouldn't get a seat. We spoke to them: "there are rules, you understand..." Translation: A German cannot go to the only German school in Anchorage. They said: "as soon as a seat opens up, we will call you." Translation: Never any call, ever. So my daughter goes to another school. Doing English homework is a nightmare for the whole family, as she has no magic powers and still needs time to learn English. Her German gets worse, as we cannot correct her influences from other languages all the time. But: she feels happy where she is, so even if a wonder happened and daddy wanted her to go to Rilke, she wouldn't go anymore. So as a consequence of this Rilke Schule being so praised for its pedagogic approaches, the level of German of a German native speaker, who would have had positive effects on her whole German-speaking class, goes down. A family struggles with homework, all because Rilke "is so good". So I am wondering: when you have "Arts and Sciences" in your title, when you spread your fancy reputation over a whole city or even state, why don't you remember that there is an Art of Diplomacy, which perhaps allows you to work around certain rules in such rare cases as ours, in order to do the right thing? And as long as I don't hear a reasonable answer to this question, I will keep on speaking up against this silly Rilke-Hype that has infected Anchorage.
