From Day 1, Profesor Franko immerses you in the Spanish language. It may seem intimidating at first but it truly hones your listening skills and ability to learn through context clues, which crucial when learning a new language. Since he is a native speaker, Profesor Franko teaches proper Spanish that is practical for work and everyday life here in the Bay Area, as well as abroad in Spanish-speaking countries. Along with the KDF workbook and online materials, Profesor Franko makes each lesson fun and engaging with diagrams, videos, and songs. He is also thorough, flexible, and goes at a pace that suits our group. The KDF classes tend to be small (mine is just me and my classmate), so each lesson offers plenty of time and individualized attention to practice vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation, grammar, and listening skills consistently. It's neat to see how much more Spanish we can understand, speak, and write compared to earlier this year. I also want to give a shout out to Pedro and the KDF administrative team who are very responsive to any concerns or questions. They are very organized about sending reminder emails before each lesson and providing the materials needed for each class. Thank you, Profesor Franko and the KDF team, for making learning a new language fun and achievable, even for a busy healthcare professional like myself. I did not learn Spanish as a child, but instead began learning as a young adult. I was often struggling with my confidence when speaking to Spanish-speakers, as I was embarrassed when communicating incorrectly. Juan is an amazing instructor and always makes me feel comfortable as I struggle and learn with my Spanish-speaking skills. Juan takes his time and never has a problem repeating what he says when I am unable to understand. I have never once felt uncomfortable and embarrassed when speaking with Juan, and this in turn has helped boost my confidence when speaking to fluent Spanish-speakers. Experiencia fantástica: I and my husband have been taking semi-private classes for almost a year and we really enjoy the lessons! Prof. Franko keeps a good balance between conversation and grammar during the class and homework and review of the previous lesson help us to improve our Spanish. Also, his class covers culture and history of Latin America and I really enjoy it. I recommend semi-private lessons if you have family or friend to take the class with. You can reschedule or skip the lesson as needed and you will have a lot of chance to speak Spanish during the class!

Experiencia fantástica: I am completing 10 hours of private online sessions with Franko next week and am extremely pleased with the quality of the lessons. Franko is an experienced teacher who has rapidly adapted to my level of language acquisition. He has been quick to spot trouble areas in my pronunciation and work with me to correct them. While the provided instructional materials are helpful, they are not overly constraining. So if I want to push harder on past tense, for example, or particular verbs or phrases, he has been happy to accommodate with additional helpful notes and exercises. I'm looking forward to signing up for another 10!

He doesn't just teach you the spoken Spanish, but he also teaches the grammar like a professional teacher. Experiencia fantástica: I have met Franko for more than a year now and I have enjoyed his teaching method. I like it that he is very knowledgeable and approachable. He speaks six languages which makes it easier for him to understand what students go through when learning a new language. I could not speak a word in Spanish before. By using repetition and mimic, he had me learning a few phrases from the very beginning. The first day of level 1, I knew how to greet and say my name, my origin, my job, my nationality, etc. I was so excited. After using and understanding phrases in context, it is much easier to understand Spanish grammar. He also offers his students a number of resources they can use during the process of learning Spanish. His YouTube videos are very useful to understand in advance what he will discuss in class. His articles and blog are hilarious and a great way to teach how to avoid mistakes during the process of learning Spanish. Also, he organizes Meetups on a weekly basis which allows students to practice outside class. His school is in a very nice residential area. At first, I wasn't sure to go since I knew it was in a house. Then I decided to go to some of his Spanish meetups and I loved his style. Parking has not been a problem since there is always plenty of space. His place is on top of a communications hill so I sometimes just go for a walk around the neighborhood to enjoy a nice view of the city of San Jose. If you don't want to pay for a whole group class or you can't commit to go every week come to KDF's meetups he's super flexible and you get a taste of his teaching style over a beer or two and then you can decide if you want to take lessons with him.

Experiencia fantástica: This is my very Spanish learning class and I must admit that Franko made it so fun to do so. He is also very caring for his student and really after for them to learn (not just the money). I have great examples about Franko's sincerity about teaching more than the money: (1) We did not achieve the minimum number of students but he still proceed in conducting the class (meaning he did not cancel it), (2) he was so flexible to move the class schedule based on student's unforeseen circumstances, like he allowed us to move the class to Tuesday since I already had a pre-planned vacation (but of course my fellow students agreed as well, good thing she is very nice too), and (3) I completely forgot the class schedule and was late for 1 hour, yes 1 HOUR. He called me and he (and my very nice classmate) waited for me, did not start the class until I came and still conducted it for 2 hours. Aside from these, he made sure that we understood and able to conversely use in the class what we learned. That for me, show his dedication, patience and passion in teaching. I will definitely continue to attend his class and recommend him in a heartbeat to someone who wants to learn Spanish.

Franko always have plenty or energy, and he helped my partner and I learn Spanish conversationally by encouraging us talking with each other in basic Spanish phrases. We were introduced to fundamentals such as numbers, days of weeks, family members, etc. Franko is friendly and treats us like family. My ability to understand conversational Spanish is progressing very rapidly, while at the same time I am learning to express myself verbally and in writing. We spend much of our class time in conversational groups of 2 or 3. Franko also leads free meet-ups where we can practice our new skills with his other students in a very comfortable atmosphere. Each week, for homework, we prepare questions and answers based on what we have learned so that we can quickly kick off our conversations in class. Franko is a caring and engaging instructor that teaches with a sense of humor. I am very happy with my choice to study at Kasa de Franko!

His method is the most natural way to learn a language as you practice, practice and practice in classes. That's the most immersive experience one can get outside of a Spanish speaking country. I started with Franko around 9 months back, when I didn't know a word of Spanish! Now, I can hold a conversation in Spanish and I've even started reading a newspaper in Spanish! Some things which stand out about KDF: - Franko is extremely knowledgeable (the mans been teaching for 10 years, that is totally expected :) ) - His class involves a ton of conversation, which is what students need, whenever they start learning a new language - in Franko's words 'Think of how kids learns languages.' - He teaches students, not only how to speak in Spanish, but about to immerse themselves in Spanish culture! That is extremely important in my opinion. He's true to his motto - ' Think in Spanish' - He's the funniest dude around! Which definitely helps enrapture students' attention! I have been taking Spanish (5 levels so far from beginner to intermediate) with Franko for almost a year now. I truly enjoyed this fun and rewarding experience. A couple of unique things that I want to call out: - Practice Opportunities: Franko's teaching style is heavily conversation-based, which means you get to practice A TON! There are also frequent meetups for students to practice (and eat delicious food) even outside of the class. - Immersive learning: ~95% of the class is in Spanish. This is very similar to the way infants learn a language. You ultimately develop the habit to think in Spanish. - Linguistic Expertise: Franko speaks 6 languages and has 10+ years of rich teaching experience. He knows exactly why you make mistakes in certain way and always guide you through them very effectively. He intentionally uses accent-neutral pronunciations, so you can adjust to different Spanish accents easily in the long run. - Culture-focused: You'll learn beyond just a language. You'll also learn about the Spanish and Latin American cultures. - Fun: Franko's great personality and sense of humor always make the classroom full of laughter. :)

I started with his weekend classes for beginners and eventually started taking private lessons because he was so great. His classroom at his house is fully equipped and very professional and he has taught me not to just embrace the language, but embracing the culture (Especially Peru!). I've also gone to some of his meetups and they're so fun! I've made friends over drinks and Spanish and I always look forward to class.
