Experiencia negativa: They suddenly closed the business yesterday and said they would issue refunds. I paid $300 in advance--I will erase this if and when John Aitchison, Founder and CTO, sends me my check. Have put in a dispute resolution with my credit card company, etc. but this no-notice closure does not bode well. It's too bad, too, because the tutors were good and the prices reasonable.

The platform enables easy communication with your teacher (via video and messaging) and a comprehensive view of your upcoming classes and credits. I appreciate that you can buy credits as you need them—not a set monthly fee. My teacher is amazing. She adjusts to my needs as a language learner. She’s engaging. She introduces new ways for me to learn and practice. No lesson is ever boring. And, I can change teachers at anytime if I need a different style. I am sticking with my teacher though :)

Experiencia positiva: I had a very good trial lesson with my teacher. When a technical issue arose on my first actual lesson, I had a far less than pleasant exchange with technical service. It wasn't the issue per se, but the tone of the exchange.

Experiencia fantástica: I have taken 3 lessons so far with Kevin. He is always on time, structures the lessons well, and makes it a very comfortable space to practice conversing in Spanish. I was hesitant to try lessons online - this is my first time having Spanish lessons 1:1 with a tutor. However, my experiences have been great so far! Also, it's easy to pay for the lessons as the LanguageConvo website uses PayPal for transactions.

Experiencia fantástica: I stumbled across LanguageConvo when searching Google for online one-on-one tutor style Spanish classes. I had been using several other tutors where I paid over triple what this site charges, so I was looking for something more affordable so I could essentially take more lessons for less money. Although initially skeptical at LanguageConvo's low prices, I did the free trial and really liked my experience with my teacher so I decided to continue and purchase lessons. I started with the smallest package to make sure my good experience with the free trial wasn't a fluke and the site really was legit, and thankfully it was. I chose to do 30 minute lessons 3x a week, each lesson worked out to less than $8. Super good value! Scheduling is easy as well, you can see a teachers calendar and choose the time slot and the length of time you want to take class for. Before doing the free trial, they asked me to complete a survey with my language goals and learning preferences and then assigned me a teacher based on what I filled out. I kept the teacher that they gave me (Alicia) because she gave a good mix of immersion and English in addition to being kind and patient. I like that the site has different teachers that you can try out, it's so important to find someone you are comfortable with and I liked that there are a lot of options (at least for Spanish, not sure for other languages). I would recommend sticking to one teacher after you found the one you like because they know where you left off in lessons and will be able to have a better understanding of your progress and what your areas of opportunity are. The topics and areas of study do vary from lesson to lesson but the one thing I really appreciate is that my teacher caters the lesson to what I need most. In my case, I use Spanish for work and she has a tendency to use examples of verbiage that would come up in my work setting. She also recommended a text book that I was able to find at Barnes and Noble for $12, after I got the book I study the chapters based on the corresponding lessons that I'm learning and try to supplement my lessons by watching Spanish kids learning cartoons. I feel that consistent lessons and speaking with a native speaker has already drastically improved my comprehension and conversational ability. This platform has truly been fantastic, both in affordability as well as flexibility and convenience. I don't have any formal years of study in school but have purchased various programs (Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, DuoLingo Plus, and private tutors) and have found those to be kind of a waste as the most effective way for me to learn Spanish is to use it and talk to native speakers. This site gives a combination of not only being taught by a teacher but being able to talk to a native speaker. If you are in the market to learn a language, try not to waste too much money using the learn on your own programs, all of these things can only supplement language learning. You really don't have much to lose in doing the free trial. I'm honestly so happy I found an affordable and flexible tutor program that is helping me improve my language skills.

Experiencia negativa: I took time to schedule a lesson for this morning at 8:30 AM EST. The website makes quite the point of ensuring that you promise not to miss your class time without canceling, so as not to waste the time of the tutor (understandably so.) However, I was not granted that same courtesy as I sat in an empty chat room well after the agreed start time. No one in the instant chat responded. There needs to be better communication between management and their teachers. Very disappointing.

Experiencia negativa: We signed up for a trial lesson for my daughter. Scheduled our Saturday morning around it, did the audio/video test, got all ready, and.... Nothing. The teacher didn't show up. Their customer service told me she sent me an email that she had a family emergency come, which was not true. There was no email in my inbox. This is obviously not a reliable means of learning a language.

Experiencia negativa: This company conceals its "policy" that your credits "expire" after a year. They do not generate any notice to you of the "expiration" date of your credits. Don't buy a subscription here if, like me, you find that to be an abusive business practice. They will just keep your money. They don't care about satisfying loyal customers.

My instructor Luz is fluent in English and Spanish and so she is able to explain easily. My instructor also demonstrates a passion for teaching, she sends me links with additional exercises and the book she assigned was $8 dollars...imagine how reasonable the lessons are and the materials too. The interaction with a fluent speaker has been essential to learning how to go beyond memorization and apply the words and grammar I have learned to real conversations.

Experiencia fantástica: LanguageConvo is awesome! It really is the best method and company for learning a language. Why? First, their teachers are all experienced, friendly and happy to teach you their native language. You get the feeling they're just as happy to teach you as you (hopefully) are to learn. Most importantly though, face to face lessons with native speakers are as close to immersion that you're going to get AND the lessons are personalized to your desires, needs and needs. I have been taking lessons for about a year and a half and I can honestly say that I'm more confident with my conversational Spanish than I would have ever expected. I've tried Rosetta Stone but the program wasn't intuitive enough, it also wouldn't advance me because I couldn't trill my "r's"; I've done Duo Lingo, it was okay for vocab and a few phrases here and there.. Either way, I had to conform to their curriculums, not the other way around. With LC there's a curriculum to guide you but you can create your own curriculum if you want. Lastly, those other websites, books, etc. give you the most grammatically correct versions of phrases and sayings (which is good), but, speaking with native speakers enables you to learn more common and colloquial phrases and words from their region. Overall, if you want to learn Spanish or any other language then please give LanguageConvo a try. It's very fairly priced for the skills that you're getting. **I'm sure some people reading this will think I work for LC, but I don't. Just a happy customer.

Experiencia fantástica: While I cant say I am completely fluent, I can travel in any Spanish speaking country comfortably and carry on a one-on-one conversation with a spanish speaker fairly easily. I owe most of this to Language Convo. For me, LanguageConvo is dollar for dollar the most effective way to learn Spanish.

In my opinion, LanguageConvo is the next best thing to full immersion in a foreign country. I speak at the high intermediate level, and my teacher customizes my lessons as I have requested, which is to mostly practice speaking Spanish and then have her correct me as seems appropriate. Luz is knowledgeable and able to explain grammatical points as they arise with a great deal of clarity. She has the remarkable ability to be both a good listener and speaker, such that I feel that with her I am also learning a lot about Honduran life and culture while speaking with a person who is well educated and speaks clearly and correctly. Furthermore, the classes are reasonably priced. They are affordable! Private Spanish classes are offered in my city, but I never took any as I could not afford to pay for them. I can afford these classes and appreciate the reduced rate offered if I pay for 12 at one time. I can sign up for a class when it fits my schedule. I love the flexibility, that it doesn't have to be the same time every week, or even every week, if I am out of town. I am retired and travel to visit family, and I need flexibility at this stage of my life. I am very grateful to Language Convo for providing this wonderful and affordable opportunity to learn another language.

The way to get the most out of these lessons is not to be afraid to say "I don't understand" or "I don't know" and to not to do too much too quickly. Work at your pace. It is not a race. Experiencia fantástica: i started taking spanish lessons one year ago with silvia agular. i take a half hour lesson every tuesday mornings. after 52 half hour lessons (26 total hours) at a ridiculously low cost, i now am about 50 - 60% fluent, and i look forward to every tuesday morning. silvia is not only an excellent teacher, she is funny and lovely. we speak only spanish about all things happening in our respective lives, cultures and even some politics. i would highly recommend language convo to anyone interested in learning a new language. mucho gusta!

Sladana is a SUPER EXCELLENT german teacher and structures the lesson in such a way that fit my needs. We have a book and workbook and she is methodical and always knows where we left off even though I've traveled in between bouts of lessons. My son takes Spanish with David M. and he is excellent as well. He helps with homework and tests as well as general understanding and speaking practice. I think, as with anything, the teacher is the MOST important element of the site. So try out teachers if you're not sure and pick one that fits your needs. Our success has been excellent!!

You can take a lesson right there on the site once you log in, which I think a lot of other companies are still using Skype.

Experiencia negativa: There is no real structure to lessons, and waste of time. It's the same thing as looking up words on the internet. And the cherry on top: communication between the web facilitator and the client is child's play. You get told different phrasings of WAIT by DIFFERENT facilitators, just to hear a sorry (we can't fix it) at the end. Took over a week to hear this "we don't know what we're doing, we can't fix it", and the client had to reinstigate the issue that was occurring. Quite untrusting of this site/service and most unvaluable.
